Operation Breaking Through (OBT)

based in Newport News, Virginia, USA.
Our History:
Operation Breaking Through (OBT) is a community development plan that unites evangelism and social action to produce wholistic solutions for At-Risk community problems.
It collaborates public, civic, and over 84 church leaders in a proactive effort to affect positive change in over 73 primarily low-income housing and trailer park
communities’ servings over 20,000 people throughout Hampton Roads annually.
Since 1989, the OBT network of churches have been instrument to revive moral and spiritual values; restore self-respect and esteem; and empower communities
with life skills to achieve greater self-sufficiency.
Vision: To be a life-giving network of local churches that are empowering disadvantaged communities through need-based evangelical outreach.
Mission Statement: To exhort, equip, and engage local churches in long-term transformational relationships with disadvantaged communities of Hampton Roads.

OBT visionary, Bishop Lawrence Lewis, was recognized by President Bush as OBT was honored as one of America’s 1000 Points of Light. His vision was to see
whole communities transformed by the gospel of Jesus Christ through needs-based evangelism.
Re. Gary Ham, Director of Missions, Elim Fellowship NY, served as Executive Director of OBT for 13 years. He envisioned the poor and downtrodden communities of
Hampton Roads revitalized through church evangelism and social action.

Reverend Kevin Brown, current Executive Director of OBT, envisions Hampton Roads churches united in the wholistic evangelization of at-risk communities throughout
the Peninsula and Southside of Virginia. Together with his wife, Angel, they have successfully partnered in numerous ministries throughout the world resulting in
thousands of souls receiving Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior.
Reverend Kevin was born again the summer of 1963. From 1982 to 1985, he served in street evangelism, soup truck, door to door, nursing homes, hospitals and prison

In 1989, Rev. Brown completed a mission trip to Kinshasa Zaire, Lagos, and Benin City Nigeria. Where he preached to thousands of Africans including graduating
seniors of Arch Bishop Edahosa’s Seminary. From 1989 to 1992, at the birth of OBT, Rev. Brown served as the first Coordinator for Wood Song and Newsome Park
Apartments, successfully evangelizing hundreds of disadvantaged families.
In response to the call of God on his life, Reverend Brown retired in August 2002 after 26 years of active duty service in the United States Air Force. He served in
numerous supervisory, managerial, and leadership positions throughout his distinguished career of USAF Ground Safety. The culmination of his faithful service
resulted in him being inducted in the USAF Safety Hall of Fame. Currently, Reverend Brown serves as youth pastor and Minister of Evangelism at the New Life Church,
